Head Triathlon Coach
Jonathan Balabuck
Jon is a certified NCCP Competition Triathlon Coach and a professionally carded triathlete. He has worked alongside both university varsity teams and competitive swimmers. He is currently the dry land coach for the Thunderbolt Swimming Clubs' provincial and national swimmers. Athletically, He was the 2007 Canadian National Elite Duathlon Champion, placed 3rd at the 2007 Pan-American Duathlon Championships, and 3rd at 2005 Canadian University Triathlon Championships. In 2007, Jon was named OAT elite male duathlete and male long course triathlete of the year. In 2008, Jon was named Triathlon Canada's Duathlete of the year. He continues to race throughout North America where he recently finished 34th overall at the 2008 Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
Swim Coach
Stewart McLean
Stewart is currently in his 3rd year as Head Coach and Swim Director for the Thunder Bolts Swimming Club in Thunder Bay and is offering his hand to help during swim clinics and camps. Stewart is a fully trained NCCP level 2 swim coach and continues to work toward his level 3. Previous to being head swim coach here in the lakehead, Stewart was head age group coach for the Guelph Marlins for 5 years. Prior to his tenure at Guelph, Stewart was head coach/owner of the Forest City Swim Club in London for 4 years. Stewart remains active in the swimming communities at both the provincial and national levels by being a board member on both Ontario Association of Swimmers, and the Ontario Swim Coaches Association. During his carreer, Stewart has coached all levels of swim abilities from beginner to international caliber athletes.
